Passionate & community-oriented
Sheila J Sadr (she/they) is a first-generation iranian-american writer, spoken word artist, educator, and community support system.
Their work has been featured with the United Nations, TEDx, Segerstrom Center of the Arts, House of Blues, LACMA, Junior High Los Angeles, John Hopkins University, University of California - Irvine, Cal State Long Beach, Pomona College, and many other gems. They are a two-time finalist for the Stories Award for Poetry—winning the second time around in 2018 for their work in their debut book Birthday Girl.
In 2023, Sheila deepened and expanded her interest in the art of expression and community work by completing her Masters in Psychology, specializing in Applied Community Psychology. Their final thesis focused on promoting and strengthening community mental health and well-being through the design and implementation of a creative writing workshop series that innovatively infused psycho-educational principles and themes.
Nuzzled contently with their spouse and two puppies in Long Beach, they are currently creatively exploring the wild terrain of grief, self-compassion, independent bookstores, sewing, literacy, and the ballet shoe economy.
